Government Efficiency

Streamlining the Secretary of State’s Office

Ken’s focus over the last year has been to improve customer service and maintain essential services in spite of reduced funding and staff levels. It’s about doing more with less.

Since taking office in January 2009, staffing allocated to the Secretary of State’s Office has been reduced from 48.3 FTE’s to 37. State funding for the office, including the newly-acquired Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, has been slashed by $1.7 million. Regardless, the office has managed to reduce or eliminate wait times, and has implemented a new system that ensures callers are greeted by a real person rather than an automated voice. Office efficiency is on the rise. One example: Processing times for notary applications have been cut in half since Ken took office, from two weeks per application to just five days.
