The Unions supporting Chris Deschene are the same Unions Organizing the Boycott of Arizona!
First term legislator Chris Deschene can’t find the time to attend the legislature to vote for over one-third of the bills he was elected to consider.
Despite his enormous number of absences, Deschene did make the time to attend the legislature to vote against SB1070.
And now he is making the time to work with some of the Country’s largest unions.
These are the same unions that are organizing the boycott of Arizona businesses. And, coincidentally, some of theses unions are Deschene’s biggest supporters as this Democrat challenger attempts to unseat Arizona’s Secretary of State, Ken Bennett.
Deschene has been endorsed and is being supported by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU). This same union is attempting to put a stop to Arizona’s economic recovery. An economic boycott means fewer jobs. It means more business closures - all of this at a time when we face an economy that may take years to recover.
Holding our economy hostage is simply the wrong to change Arizona public policy
And the leader of this effort? Deschene's campaign chairman, Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva, The first national figure to call for the boycott – a boycott of this home state!
To make matters worse, the SEIU and the National Council of La Raza have joined in demanding that Major League Baseball relocate next summer's All-Star Game. They would rather play the All-Star Game in anywhere other than Arizona. This carries a tremendous cost – this game means millions of dollars in badly needed revenues for Arizona businesses, and for our state and local governments.
These groups have already been successful in steering union controlled conventions out of Arizona.
The SEIU has even established a public relations campaign warning tourists about the “risks” of visiting Arizona.
“I call on Mr. Deschene to stop devoting his time and energy to dragging down Arizona’s economy. I am asking him to denounce these groups and the individuals attempting to hold our economy hostage in order to change Arizona public policy” Secretary of State Ken Bennett said. “This boycott is only hurting those Arizonans that Mr. Deschene says he’d like to represent.”
“It is the voters of Arizona that guide our public policy, not well-financed, misguided unions directed by out-of-state leaders with agendas that will do nothing but damage the Arizona economy and the citizens of our state,” Bennett said.
“They have tried this before. In 2004, the SEIU spent over $1 million in an effort to stop Arizona voters’ from approving Proposition 200,” he said. “Despite their campaign, the measure was overwhelmingly approved, requiring that individuals show identification when seeking public benefits or attempting to vote. Our office continues to fight legal assaults on this measure, as well.”
Once again, it is time to begin moving Arizona forward. I call upon Mr. Deschene to denounce these groups and the individuals attempting to hold the Arizona economy hostage in order to change Arizona public policy” Secretary of State Ken Bennett said.
